Math & Science

I am so excited to work with all of you this year!

Math
Now that the year is in full swing, we are continuing to work on Problem Solving using strategies.  We are now moving into probability and statistics.  The students will look at the chance for something to happen and if it is more or less likely.  For example: If I have a coin I can flip it to show heads or tails.  Each is equally likely. 1 out of 2 chances.  However, if I have a bag with 5 orange blocks and 2 blue blocks, it is more likely to choose an orange block, 5 out of 7, and less likely to choose a blue block, 2 out of 7.  It is impossible to choose a purple block and a guarentee to draw a blue or orange block.   The students will practice this with dice, spinners, money, colored chips, and other concrete objects.
Science
In Science we are now studying Science TEK 4.8C- Collect and analyze data to identify sequences and predict patterns of change in shadows, tides, seasons, and observe the appearance of the moon over time.
**
We will continue our Garden visits for 6 more weeks.
